We began in the autumn of 2013. Mark had been hiking with a friend for a few days in the wilderness. A chemist and engineer by heart, and also someone who wanted a little bit of creature comfort at the time, he wanted to harvest the heat from the fire of their little cooking pot to produce a hot shower. Serendipitously, he also knew about the Seebeck Effect and thermoelectric generators, which convert a temperature gradient into electricity. His proposal: a backpacking stove with thermoelectric generators.

Enter Jacqueline, who lived overseas for a few years and had a hand in development initiatives in impovershed regions. They formed an interdisciplinary team and together, Mark and Jacqueline realized the potential of thermoelectric technology in developing regions of the world.
